BKLA (Beyond Karate Los Angeles) is an inclusive community enrichment center serving children, teens, and adults of all abilities, including those with special needs. Our programs are designed to support and include those with developmental, physical, and learning differences.

Open Positions


1. Staff Assistant (Part-Time, Ongoing)

Pay: $17.87–$20/hr
Schedule: 15–25 hours/week (9am–6pm, flexible across weekdays & weekends)

Role Overview
Staff Assistants support all BKLA programs, working alongside instructors and participants across fitness classes, life skills sessions, workshops, tutoring, and camps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist instructors across programs (fitness, life skills, workshops, camps)
  • Support participants of all ages and abilities
  • Help with setup, transitions, and materials
  • Encourage engagement and positive behavior
  • Assist with attendance and daily operations

What We’re Looking For

  • Compassionate, patient, and adaptable
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Reliable and professional
  • Experience with youth or individuals with disabilities (a plus, not required)

2. Fitness Instructor (Part-Time, Ongoing)

Pay:
  • Assistants: starting at $18/hr
  • Instructors: $20–$25/hr

Role Overview
Lead or assist in adaptive fitness and martial arts-based classes designed for students of all abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist engaging fitness/movement classes
  • Support students in coordination, strength, and confidence
  • Create a positive and inclusive class environment
  • Model encouragement, safety, and teamwork

What We’re Looking For

  • Background or interest in fitness, martial arts, dance, or movement
  • Experience with individuals with disabilities (a plus, not required)
  • Positive energy and willingness to learn
  • Inclusive mindset and strong communication
Training and mentorship provided.

3. Summer Camp Counselors (Seasonal)

Dates: June 15 – August 14
Schedules Available:

  • Morning: 8:15am–1:30pm
  • Afternoon: 1:30pm–5:30pm
  • Full-day opportunities available

Role Overview
Camp Counselors create a fun, safe, and engaging environment while leading activities and supporting campers of all ages and abilities. Our campers range in age from 7 - 25 and are separated in groups by age.


Job title: Assistant Camp Instructor
Compensation: $18 - $20 based on experience

  • Assist in scheduled activities, while creating a fun, positive and safe experience for all campers.
  • Assist youth leaders with all scheduled activities.
  • Ensure safety of campers and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate fun and active demeanor.
  • Work well with different age groups of children, teens, and individuals of all ages with special needs.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and great communication skills with employees, campers, and families.
  • Ability to multitask and handle complex situations appropriately.
  • Background in Martial Arts and Prior experience in camp or after school program a plus!

Job title: Junior Camp Counselor/Youth Camp Counselor
(age 16+ with valid work permit)
Compensation: $17.78

  • Assist in scheduled activities, while creating a fun, positive and safe experience for all campers.
  • Assist Instructors and youth leaders with all scheduled activities.
  • Ensure safety of campers and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate fun and active demeanor.
  • Work well with different age groups of children, teens, and individuals of all ages with special needs.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and great communication skills with employees, campers, and families.
  • Ability to multitask and handle complex situations appropriately.
  • Background in Martial Arts and Prior experience in camp or after school program a plus!

  • Experience with individuals with disabilities (preferred)
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
